History
The Boston Terrier is a downsized version of the bull and terrier breeds popular in early America. It was developed in the late 1800s and is one of the first breeds created in the United States. It was the first American breed recognized by the American Kennel Club.
Physical Description
Height 15 to 17 inches.
Weight 15 to 25 pounds.
Tail Short and may be straight or screw.
Coat Short and smooth
Color Brindle, seal or black, all with white markings.
Temperament
The Boston Terrier is lively, intelligent, and alert. It is determined and strong but with a kind, even-tempered disposition. It gets along well with almost everyone, including children and other dogs.
Grooming
The Boston Terrier does not require much grooming. Occasional brushing is all that is necessary to maintain a healthy coat.
Training
The Boston Terrier’s intelligence makes it an easily trainable dog. However, it can be stubborn at times, so a patient and assertive owner will have the most success.
Activity Level
The Boston Terrier has a relatively moderate activity level. Short walks and plenty of playtime with its owner or other dogs will satisfy its exercise needs.
Best Owner
The Boston Terrier does well with a family or individual in a city, suburban or rural home.
